Let’s talk love: Delicious pleasures on Valentine’s Day

Once a year, the entire world twitches with love. In all corners of the globe, the 14th of February, although an American celebration, is now a perfectly good reason to let loose all those heart shaped balloons, Italian songs of love and romantic pasta dishes. The scent of vanilla, strawberry and cinnamon should take over your senses, allowing you to let go and feel the wondrous feeling of love that is so specific for this great day. However, all these might sound as a fairytale, but you find it impossible to connect. Could it be because a sense of panic has taken over? Could it be that you have forgotten about this day of love and woken up on the 14th exactly, realizing that you have absolutely no plans? That might not be such a big issue for you if you don’t believe that love shouldn’t be celebrated only once a year, but every day. For your partner however, things might be different. So, in the name of love and understanding, get up, hurry to the computer and start searching for ideas. To offer you a helping hand, as we know how much this matters at the moment, we thought of offering you an idea for dinner. And all you need is the Spiral Slicer and a few vegetables. Surely you have seen the movie the Lady and the Tramp. You are familiar with the highly romantic scene of sharing a pasta bowl and a meatball. Recreating that is not difficult at all and it can be healthy. Just because this is Valentine’s Day, it doesn’t mean that you should eat all sorts of crazy things, ending up feeling like a balloon in the big day of love. You could keep things simple, flavored and highly romantic, simply by replacing pasta with something similar in taste. Curios yet?

Because the Italians know what it means to be romantic and it is in their country that food ended up being almost worship , what better way to celebrate this day of love than by preparing an Italian pasta dish? With a twist of course.
The Cacio e Pepe is one of the few vegetarian Italian pasta recipes, as it includes only cheese and pepper. Now you can follow the original recipe and simply switch to zucchini noodles or add a few bacon strips. Of course we believe in tradition, so if you were to ask our advice, we would tell to stick to the original recipe. In the end, who knows pasta better than Italians? So, here is what you will be needing.


  • 3 zuchinnis, medium sized
  • 1 garlic glove
  • Pepper, freshly grinded
  • 1 pinch of red pepper flakes (don’t make it too spicy)
  • Pecorino Romano cheese, grated, no more than ¼ cup
  • Parmigiano Reggiano cheese for the sauce and to garnish the plate

So, let’s get started. Spiralize those zucchinis. Be brave, anyone can do it! With the Spiralizer it is the simplest task in the world. Once all three are made, you can pass on to step two. Mince the garlic and together with the red pepper flakes, place them in the pan with pinch of oil. Let them dance in the pan, helping them from time to time. Then, add the zoodles. Mix them in the pan for two, three minutes. Now it’s time for the cheese. Add the two types of cheese, ¼ cup of each and sprinkle pepper. Don’t be shy with the pepper. In the end, you are making Cacio e Pepe pasta.

Place the zoodles and cheese on two plates, decorate with Parmigiano Reggiano and pepper of course and if you want, add a basil leaf, for design.
